Setting Intentions for 2019
If you haven’t already, now is a wonderful time for setting intentions for 2019. Similar to setting New Year’s Resolutions, setting intentions for 2019 is all about what you would like to accomplish in the coming year. Unlike setting resolutions, when you set intentions the goals tend to be more long term, and for many more achievable.
When setting a New Year’s Resolution, many are setting themselves up for failure (most NYR’s fail, or simply get forgotten within the first month of the new year). In setting intentions you’re putting out what you want to achieve to the universe and working to achieve it. Your intention might be for the next week – I want to Kon Mari my closet, to something much more long term and esoteric – I’m going to say “no” when I don’t want to do the thing that I am asked.
Intentions can be anything, but they are usually more about finding happiness and abundance. Less about losing weight and more about finding contentment and happiness. Turning your intentions into reality takes commitment and persistence (just like a resolution), and easy to do when you have a plan.
Setting Intentions for 2019
Choose Wisely – At the end of the year we all have a million things we want to accomplish in the new year. We feel a sense of urgency often because we are stressed out from the busy holiday season and ready to start over. We often set lofty goals that are difficult to achieve because we have set our intentions too high and have chosen too many goals to achieve. Choose one or two intentions (you can always set more as you check the accomplished ones off) and work on them to see them through. Choose the top one or two priorities and set to work at them with everything you have.
Be Specific – As you know, the universe is listening and if you aren’t specific you might find it will send you something that you didn’t think you asked for, but upon reflection you actually did. Be as specific as you can when setting intentions. What, where, when and how.
Make a Plan – How will you go about making your intentions reality? Each one is different and each person will have a different plan. What do you need to do to help the universe bring your intentions to light? How can you make your life welcoming to these new changes? Write it down and then go about making the accommodations. This is a malleable plan, so revisit it as needed.
Stay on Track – It’s easy to get discouraged. If your intention was to create more this year and already you’ve been overwhelmed with work, home life and everything else life has to throw at you – and haven’t found time to actually do the creating you’d like to do revisit your plan. You may need to change your schedule so your SO can help with taking the kids to and from practice. You may find that getting up an hour earlier is the only way you’ll have alone time. The bottom line, is that you’ll need to make adjustments. Do so, willingly, gratefully and happily and in no time you’ll find that what you intended for the year is here.
